You know something is up when you hear your kid asking for homeschool on a Sunday!? I had to stop doing the laundry, get down to his level, and explain that Sunday is meant to be a chill, chore day, family day--anything but school day. I guess it's a good thing that he's asking for a lesson plan?! He's been so into this letter scavenger hunt I do with him Monday-Friday. As soon as he gets up and gets ready, he comes downstairs, goes to his little mailbox to see what the letter of the day is. Then, he's off around the house looking for the letters I hide by objects that begin with the letter of the day. I honestly, just tried to make up something we can do as a regular part of our homeschool days. I actually thought he would think it was boring, but he loves it and it's really helping him as far as in sounding out words.
Anyway, I'm glad he has this inclination towards books, letter, words, etc. I've always been a nerd and his dad also (more like a record nerd!). There's always been some sort of negative connotation to the word, nerd. But I embrace it! We should be proud of education and being educated and passionate about anything we are all "experts" at. So don't get it twisted. Besides this mailbox/letter scavenger hunt routine, we also take daily trips to the park for a good walk and running around. Its also a great time for Miles to mingle with the other kids.
While he has fun running around at the park, for some reason--he enjoys running around his nanay's and papo's house more with his BFF Dengs. And when given a choice between park or library, he will choose library. The library also makes a great weekly or even bi-weekly trip that never gets old.
He can't get enough of books and seems to have moved on from picture books to adventure books.
This one in particular, is what he chose for his bedtime book. I have to read a chapter each night. I am missing those one sentence pages--or better yet, pages with no words, just pictures.
Saturday was papo's 58th birthday so we celebrated at Princess Garden, the historic Chinese restaurant of Vallejo. Haha! Before we went to Papos' bday, Miles whipped up some oatmeal & walnut cookies and a bday card with the "papo monster" on it for his grandpa. Miles is really into monster anything these days. Happy Birthday papo, we love you!
Dengs x Miles = BFF
"My bestfriend!" Dengs exclaimed as he wrapped his arms around Miles.

oh man, good job on being brave enough to take on educating miles yourself. i don't care what anyone says, homeschooling your kid (if you can make it work financially and all that) is the way to go. miles is the coolest! p says homesku nerdz rule!
right on! we gotta figure out how to make it work..in the meantime, we are having fun with the boy. btw, glad paulo likes his gift! miles was excited to receive mail from him. maybe when they are a bit older, they can be pen pals and enjoy snail mail!?
