Giant Redwoods

After planning a day trip to Big Sur to visit the giant Redwoods with Aunty Lea, we finally made the 3 hour trek. It felt great to be back, feeling the antiquity of the forest and some of the ancient trees that have probably been around since before California was Mexico. Upon our arrival, we were greeted at the parking lot by a strange but beautiful blue bird. It really felt as if this bird were there to welcome us. Along our hike, I would see the bird flying above and around us.
We found the giant Redwood with the nook.
Of course these pictures donʻt do justice to how huge these trees really are until you see the size in comparison with people...
It was a perfect sunny but breezy day to hike the Pfiefer Fall trail. It was Aunty Leaʻs first time seeing the Redwoods up close. We were amazed by how gigantic the ancient ones were. It was really something to just stand back and take in.
Miles looked below and found little pine cones that someday might grow.
To baby Redwoods like this one...
It was a good day to unplug and dust off the matrix and be healed by the spirits of the ancient forest. We learned about the Redwoods we visited and saw how the timeline of historic moments fit along the rings of a Redwood.
We hiked up along the side of the mountain. Miles wanted to hold my hand the whole way! Aunty Lea thought I was being an overprotective mom (haha!) but I was actually trying to shake my hand free from Miles. What can I say, heʻs a mamaʻs boy!
When we finally got to the waterfall, we sat back to listen to the fall and just breathe in the fresh air.
Miles was having fun climbing on top of all the big boulders.

The blue bird decided to land and stare back at us. It was really as though it guided us there, allowing us to take photos of it and watch it for a long while. "Itʻs our new friend,"Miles decided.
We checked out one of the bird guide pamphlets at the local shop and found out the blue bird was named, Stellar Jay.
Then it was time to say good bye to the water fall...
Goodbye to the Redwoods...
It was refreshing to be surrounded by ancient giants. Miles was pretty proud of himself to walk about 3 miles on his own (without his dad there to give him a lift)!
As soon as we arrived back to SF, it was time to treat ourselves to the best froyo ever...
Thank you, Aunty Lea, for the great adventure outdoors! Next up is the Petrified Forest of Calistoga!
